About Velomobiles
Steve Schleicher is founder and president of Nimbus Kayaks in Maple Ridge, BC, Canada which is well known for its high quality Kevlar kayaks. He has over 30 years of experience in fibreglass composite construction. Today, Nimbus Kayaks manufactures more than 15 different models, ranging from single kayaks for day trips or fully-equipped sea-touring kayaks up to large, expedition-equipped tandem kayaks.
The Borealis Project
Steve travels between home and work by cycling in the Borealis. As with his kayaks, Steve wanted both comfort and speed in his cycle, so he chose the Trice QNT tricycle made by ICE in England. He did not want to give up cycling in the wet cold Canadian winter, so he began to plan an enclosure for the Trice. From his original interest, little by little he developed a modern, aerodynamic velomobile shell for the Trice QNT. This velomobile, the Borealis, had its world premiere at the Icletta exhibition booth at SPEZI 2008.
