Steering Masts and Handlebars
Steering Masts
An important part of the TerraCycle fully adjustable steering system is the lightweight steering mast with adjustable stem for your handlebars. This mast comes in a variety of heights to accommodate any rider and above seat steering bike. The stem comes in either long or short (most riders use the short style). Since everything clamps on the mast tube, you are free to move things to wherever they are needed. Never again will you be limited by the stock position offered by most manufacturers. Also included with the mast are two adjustable CNC machined cable guides for your brakes and derailleurs. No longer will you be using zip ties or funky Velcro fasteners, this will enable you to properly locate your cables for a clean and effective setup. Get the custom set up you desire- like the bike was built just for you.
Handlebars
Most of the stock short wheelbase recumbents with above seat steering on the market come with only one or two styles of handlebars. Some people find that they would ideally like to have a width and bar angle that is more comfortable for them. We feel that one, two, three, or even 4 choices is not enough- people are more unique than that. For this reason we offer 14 bars varying in width and grip angle (15, 20, 25, 35, 45 & 55 degrees grip angle and 24, 30, 38, 44 & 48 cm widths - grip center to grip center). All handlebars are made of seamless 6061 tubing and reamed for bar end shifters. They are shaped and reamed at TerraCycle and anodized locally.
A good place to start finding the best fitting handlebar for you is by sitting on your present bike and then determining whether you would like a wider or narrower overall width. When you are riding where do you tend to put your hands? This will be a good indicator of your natural comfort position. Many people like a shoulder width bar, some like more of a closed in “praying hamster” position. For your wrists, determine whether you want a flatter position where your knuckles are more horizontal or more angle where your thumbs are rotated upwards.Click here to see dimensions of all 14 types of handlebars in centimeters.

Once you have decided on this you can be confident that this is a good approximation of what bars you will be happiest with. Visualize your hand position relative to the picture of the the 4 bar angles and you will tend to pick the one that is correct. It really is that simple and we are confident that our selection of bars will allow you to find one that will make your riding more comfortable and efficient.
